The show opens with the chairman, Vince McMahon in the ring along with Brad Maddox. Maddox apologises for his decision to let John Cena pick his SummerSlam opponent. Daniel Bryan’s music hits, as he makes his way to the ring. Bryan hails Cena for choosing him at SummerSlam and also talks about the sacrifices and hard work he’s put into this company.
Mr McMahon ridicules Bryan and tells him that he can beat neither Cena nor Kane. Vince doesn’t care about Cena or Bryan at SummerSlam and hopes he wins. Bryan says if Cena is lying to him, he will have hell to pay. He then works the crowd, as the ‘yes’ chants begin, ending the segment.
Match 1: The Shield vs. The Usos and Mark Henry
Impressive opening match as both the teams put up a descent show. Eventually as Uso goes to the top for a splash, Ambrose gets his knees up and drops Uso for the win.
Kane is seen backstage as he asks Maddox for the Wyatts. Maddox tells Kane to send them a stern message through his match against Daniel Bryan.
Winners: The Shield
Match 2: Rob Van Dam vs. Fandango
RVD completely dominates the match. Displaying maneuver after maneuver with utmost ease. Fandango, during the course of the match rolls out of the ring leaves up the ramp, resulting in a count out win for RVD.
Winner by Count Out: Rob Van Dam
Match 3: Kaitlyn vs. AJ Lee
A decent back and forth Divas match was on the cards, and it remained as expected. After some initial exchanges, Kaitlyn finally gets the win after a spear.
Winner: Kaitlyn
After the match, Ziggler comes out and congratulates AJ for her loss. In the process, he also challenges Big E for a match and the latter accepts.
Match 4: Big E Langston vs. Dolph Ziggler
Even though Ziggler tried offense after offense, Big E was up for the challenge as he dominated the match. Eventually, AJ comes in and jumps on Dolph’s back for the disqualification.
Winner by DQ: Dolph Ziggler
After the match AJ is seen screaming in the ring. Big E is unhappy with AJ for costing him the match. Ziggler takes advantage of this, getting back into the ring and laying him out.
Match 5: Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio
Good match, which went back and forth on a constant basis. Del Rio worked on Christian’s shoulder , even sending him against the steel steps on the floor. Christian countered with his own offence as well during the course of the match. From out of nowhere, Christian rolls Del Rio up for the non-title win.
Winner: Christian
Match 6: Wade Barrett vs. Cody Rhodes
Barrett completely dominated the entire match. However, Rhodes held his fort and hits Cross Rhodes for the win.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
Sandow comes out after the match and ridicules Cody’s achievements. He says that he’s filed a complaint with the WWE management over his briefcase being thrown into the Gulf Of Mexico. He also calls Cody and his family ‘Clowns’.
Match 7: Kane vs. Daniel Bryan
A contest of power vs technique, as Kane and Bryan put up an impressive show. Eventually, as Kane lifts Bryan for a ‘Chokeslam’, Bryan counters it and ends up getting the quick pin.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
After the match is done, Kane grabs Bryan for the ‘chokeslam’. As Bryan walks off, The Wyatt’s invade the ring. Kane is not able to fend them off, as they continue their assault him. Wyatt kisses Kane on the forehead and says ‘Kane is no demon’ and poses with the family.
Match 8: Brie Bella vs. Natalya
Perhaps the poorest match of the night, as the game progresses , Nikki Bella comes out with a duck call, distracting Natalya with “quack quack” as Brie rolls her up and gets the win.
Winner: Brie Bella
Match 9: R-Truth vs. Curtis Axel
Before the match begins, Heyman cuts a promo of how Brock Lesnar will end Punk’s career at SummerSlam. As the match begins, Axel dominates R-Truth with some impressive offense. Punk runs down the ramp and pulls Axel out of the ring, sending him into the fan barrier. He now chases Heyman to the barrier but Axel comes over. Punk fights him off and Heyman manages to escape. Punk now stands on top of the announcers table as fans chant his name.
Match 10: Tables Match: Ryback vs. John Cena
Both superstars put up a show worthy of a main event. The match went back and forth with both Cena and Ryback laying offence after offence. As the game progresses, Cena gets up in front of the table in the corner as Ryback waits. Cena moves and grabs Ryback, sending him through the table with an Attitude Adjustment for the win.
Winner: John Cena
After the match Daniel Bryan comes to the ring, grabs the title and hesitates to hand it over to John Cena. They both exchange words after Cena grabs the title from Bryan, concluding the show.
