There has been speculation for many years that the 47-year-old could compete in one final WWE match, but the man himself seemingly ended that speculation in August when he revealed that he had “quietly retired” from wrestling.
Now, ahead of SmackDown’s premiere episode, Triple H has told Sky Sports that The Rock is bound to “get the bug again” when he speaks in front of the live WWE audience, but he does not know whether his former in-ring rival has the time in his schedule to compete in a farewell match one day.
The Rock’s recent WWE matches
Officially, The Rock’s final match came in April 2016 at WrestleMania 32 when he defeated Erick Rowan in an impromptu six-second encounter following a promo with The Wyatt Family.
The 10-time World Champion’s most recent pre-advertised match took place three years earlier at WrestleMania 29, where he lost the WWE Championship in the main event against John Cena.
Prior to that, the WWE Superstar-turned-Hollywood movie star defeated CM Punk in back-to-back PPVs at the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber in early 2013, while he was also victorious against Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII.
