Wrestlingnews.com reported that Ciampa got on the mic after his match and went on a rant.

During his rant, he referred to himself as a ‘God of pro wrestling’.

In case you missed it…

Tomasso Ciampa has been one of the MVPs of NXT throughout his tenure. His matches as a member of DIY with Johnny Gargano were among some of the best ever under the NXT banner. Once he turned on Gargano, the two had legendary matches throughout last year.

Ciampa eventually challenged Aleister Black for the NXT Championship and won it after Gargano attempted to interfere on Black’s behalf. Instead, he hit Black instead accidentally, leading to Ciampa claiming the title.

During his reign, Ciampa has been dynamite on the mic while holding ‘Goldy’ over his shoulder. He brushed back Velveteen Dream at NXT Takeover: WarGames 2 and will defend against Black at Takeover: Phoenix.

The heart of the matter

Ciampa has been a highlight of NXT as it’s overbearing heel champion.

After he turned back another challenge from Velveteen Dream over the weekend, he went on a verbal tirade on the mic:

After giving some props to the entire roster, he returned to heel form:

Also over the weekend, WWE tweeted a photo of Ciampa and Ricochet holding the belts in each other’s faces:

What’s next?

The tirade is just another example of Ciampa furthering his heel character. Bobby Roode was the elitist heel champion and Andrade Almas was the elitist champ who prided himself on his in-ring work. Ciampa has taken it to another level with his near-delusional rants like this.

But that’s all a part of being a heel in wrestling.

As for the stare-down between he and Ricochet, it might be nothing or it could lead to a huge match down the road. The next Takeover special after Phoenix is slated for Wrestlemania weekend, so that would obviously be a huge match to help sell that show.

Takeover specials don’t need help selling themselves as they are always fantastic events with awesome matches.

With a potential match between two champions, it might open the door for other wrestlers like Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, EC3 and others to get on the card.
