The likes of Rich Swann, Cedric Alexander, Gran Metalik, Brian Kendrick, Tony Nese and even Cruiserweight Champion T.J. Perkins have shown glimpses of brilliance on the main roster but still haven’t been able to capture the fans’ attention.
At last week’s episode of Monday Night RAW airing from Cincinnati, Ohio, WWE announced that Brian Kendrick would face the champion T.J. Perkins for the title again next week in Los Angeles. This was after T.J. Perkins defeated Kendrick clean, the previous night, at Clash of Champions. So Kendrick was actually being handed out another title shot despite losing clean at Clash of Champions, much to the chagrin of Perkins and the WWE Universe. The announcement evoked a mixed reaction and WWE were quick to realize that. It seems that there has been a change in plans.
That’s because the official RAW preview on WWE.com for the next episode on October 3 states that Brian Kendrick will be competing to put himself in line for another shot at the Cruiserweight title.
The website states the following passage:
The decision to make ‘The Wizard of Odd’ Kendrick work for his title shot makes more sense. This would allow the fans to get invested in the storyline developing within the division. However, it still involves the bad logic of beating or pinning the champion in a match to get a shot at his championship.
It could very well be that WWE will continue to work the storyline for the Cruiserweight championship between Perkins and Kendrick for a good part of this month. The rivalry may end with a final clash at Hell in A Cell that is scheduled for later this month in Boston.
